Samba Society presents: SOUL of FORRÓ
LA’s forró stalwarts MoForro and funksters Os Zagueiros join forces to honor the eternal “King of Baião” on the 29th anniversary of his passing.
Luiz Gonzaga (12/13/1912-08/02/1987) is one of the most influential artists of Brazilian popular music in the 20th century. An accordion prodigy with a legacy of nearly 50 albums recorded over a career spanning half a century, Gonzaga was a troubadour who embodied and sang the oral history of the drought-stricken Brazilian northeast, influencing generations of artists of all genres.
The internationally-acclaimed bossa nova composer Antonio Carlos Jobim hailed Luiz Gonzaga as “revolutionary”.
MôForró and Os Zagueiros, of the Samba Society collective, will perform funky arrangements from Gonzaga’s vast repertoire, and will also explore his enormous influence on Brazilian popular music.
