In 1961, Akira Kurosawa laid the groundwork for what would become the American Western with his Samurai film YOJIMBO.
The incomparable Toshiro Mifune stars in this visually stunning and darkly comic film that was eventually (loosely) remade into Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars and Walter Hill’s Last Man Standing.

To get rid of corruption in a small town, a wily samurai named Sanjuro turns a range war between two evil clans to his own advantage. This exhilarating, genre-twisting drama remains one of the most thoroughly entertaining films of all time. Join us as we present this classic and highly-influential crowd-pleasing romp on the big screen!

Directed by Akira Kurosawa. 1960. 110 minutes. Not Rated.

“It is fair to say that, without Yojimbo, certain key aspects of Western cinema would not be the same today.” -James Berardinelli, ReelViews

“One of Japan’s great contributions to cinema, the inspiration for spaghetti Westerns and the introduction of a new kind of film hero.” -Brian Webster, Apollo Guide

“It is still clearly the work of a master filmmaker, the level of care apparent in every shot being enough to lift Yojimbo out of the generic morass.” -Keith Brown, Edinburgh Film Society
