Denise is a complete artist and her talent has represented Brazilian music very well all around the world. With an impeccably tuned and colorful voice, Denise plays complex rhythms with great naturality and presents an eclectic repertoire, from Popular Brazilian Music (MPB) to jazz, and world music.
One of Denise’s talents is her ability to reproduce the sound of a trumpet with her voice! Her amazing personality combined with her smooth singing voice and virtuoso guitar playing has opened many doors and she has performed all over the world.
Denise released her first record, «Chá de Hortelã com Caviar» (Mint tea and caviar) in 1998 and had great guitarist Guinga, Zé Nogueira and Luciana Rabello as special guests. With influences from Rita Lee, Villa Lobos, Ivan Lins, Gonzaguinha, this record gained rave reviews.
Her second album, «Alfândega» (Customs), was also very well received by the audience and the critics and she performed extensively in Brazil. By 2007 she had already performed in Portugal, Ukraine, Senegal, Venezuela, Slovenia, Israel, Canada and United States.
One of the highlights in her career was a standing ovation by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2009 and an audience of 7,000 people at the Palace Theater in Albany, NY. Denise had the honor of being invited by a North American Organization to compose a song in Portuguese and present it live to Dalai Lama at this event.
Denise is based in New York since 2014 and she performs regularly. With no labels or limiting definitions, it is fair to say that Denise communicates her music in a way that transcends any cultural barrier.
