WHAT IS TRAUMA- INFORMED?
“According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the concept of a trauma- informed approach would mean that “a program, organization, or system that is trauma-informed:
1. Realizes the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths for recovery;
2. Recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, families, staff, and others involved with the system;
3. Responds by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, and practices; and
4. Seeks to actively resist re- traumatization.”
WHAT IS TBRI®?
TBRI® (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) is a holistic approach that is multi-disciplinary, flexible, attachment-centered, trauma- informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of children from “hard places”, such as maltreatment, abuse, neglect, multiple home placements, and violence.
TBRI® uses connecting principles for attachment needs, empowering principles to address physical needs, and correcting principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. The principles are designed for use with children and youth of all ages and risk levels.
